Quilters needed to help historical society

Blocks for the 2016 raffle quilt are sewn and ready to be assembled. Now all the McHenry County Historical Society needs are quilters.

Those wishing to help set up and ready the quilt on the rack should come to the museum, 6422 Main St. in Union, at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 18.

"Basting," the long stitches used to hold the top, batting and backing of a quilt together while the quilting is done, starts at 10 a.m. It will be followed by a "brown bag" potluck, in which everyone brings a sandwich to cut in half to share - plus a dessert.

The quilt, an adaptation of Jacob's ladder, will feature 1930s fabrics and colors. Jacob's ladder features blocks sewn together side by side, creating diagonal pathways. It is one of the few common patterns the Heritage Quilters haven't done in its 35-plus years. The group also plans a new twist - an applique center medallion.

Buy your chance to win this year's stunning "Mood Indigo" quilt featuring an 80-block, churn-dash pattern that salutes jazz and the once-precious indigo dye.

Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5, with all proceeds benefiting the McHenry County Historical Society and Museum.

The annual fundraiser is made possible through the efforts of the Heritage Quilters and supporters.
