Man gets 10 years for shooting at people in Rosemont parking garage

A 25-year-old Park City man pleaded guilty Monday to firing a 9 mm semi-automatic weapon at four men in a Rosemont parking garage last year.

James Miller, of the 500 block of West Street, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in exchange for pleading guilty to aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Miller fired 10 rounds at four men who were walking through the MB Financial Park parking garage on their way to their car about 4 a.m. June 8, 2014. The shooting followed an argument between Miller and the victims, authorities said.

Police identified Miller's car and license plate through video surveillance at the garage. Later that day, Mundelein police arrested Miller on charges of DUI, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Michael Crowe.

The Mundelein officer found the gun and a casing in the vehicle, Crowe said. The 10 casings found at the scene were fired by the handgun Mundelein police recovered from Miller's vehicle.

"I'm sorry all this happened," said Miller, who has a DUI case pending in Lake County and an aggravated battery case pending in Kenosha, Wis. "I wish it didn't happen."

"This is not the wild west," replied Cook County Judge Thomas Fecarotta.

Miller, who received credit for 281 days in custody, must complete at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
