Writers Theatre announces first season in new home

Writers Theatre Monday unveiled an eclectic mix of shows for its upcoming 2015-16 season, the first in the Glencoe theater's new home.

The season will kick off Oct. 21 in a familiar space, the intimate Books on Vernon, with "Marjorie Prime," by Jordan Harrison. The drama, directed by Kimberly Senior, is about an 86-year-old woman who fears she is losing her memory and a mysterious young man who helps her uncover pieces of her past. In early 2016, Writers' new theater center will open at 325 Tudor Court. First up in the new center will be Tom Stoppard's "Arcadia" on March 16. Directed by Artistic Director Michael Halberstam, the production - "part detective story and part comedy of manners" - will be staged in the 250-seat Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre.

A new collaboration with Chicago's The Second City follows on April 27, 2016, in the smaller Gillian Theatre. "Death of a Streetcar Named Virginia Woolf - A Parody" is written by Tim Sniffen, with additional material by Tim Ryder. The show, a parody of American plays, will be directed by Halberstam and Stuart Carden.

"Company," with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth, will be directed by William Brown in the Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre. The musical, about contemporary relationships, starts June 15, 2016.

Season subscriptions start at $179 and are available at the box office, 321 Park Avenue, Glencoe, by phone at (847) 242-6000 and online at writerstheatre.org.
