Harper panel to discuss role of women in WWII

A panel will discuss "Finding a Woman's Place in World War II" at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 17, in the Drama Lab, Building L, Room L109 on Harper College's main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine. Panelists will discuss the role of women in the 1940s and their abilities and contributions to the war effort, both in the military and on the home front. The panel discussion is part of the annual One Book, One Harper reading initiative, which encourages the community to read the same book and take part in a variety of related academic, cultural and social activities. This year's book is "The Greatest Generation" by Tom Brokaw, who captures the stories of individuals who came of age during the Great Depression and World War II. The event is free and refreshments will be served. At 11 a.m. the same day in the Student Center (Building A), there will be a free screening of "A League of Their Own," which showcases the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, established in 1943 to keep baseball in the public eye as many male ballplayers served in the military.
