St. Charles teacher honored as music educator of the year

The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra presented Lynne Green, instrumental music teacher at St. Patrick Catholic School in St. Charles, with its annual Music Educator of the Year Award on Sunday at the Soirees Musicales spring concert.

The award recognizes a music educator who has made a significant contribution to music education in the Fox Valley.

Green has taught music since 1988, and has maintained a large studio of private flute students since 1999. Nearly a dozen of her students have successfully auditioned for top spots in the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra over the last 15 years, and many have gone on to win regional awards and attend top-ranked universities and music conservatories.

“Lynne Green is a teacher's teacher,” said EYSO Artistic Director Randal Swiggum. “I've always been so impressed with not only her musicianship and scholarship, but the results she gets with kids. She is a treasure.”

Former student Ann Green (no relation), now a flute performance major at Ohio State University, described the six years she studied with Green as the “six years that inspired and shaped me as a person.”
