Demolition of Buffalo Grove bridge set to begin

The Raupp Boulevard Bridge between Lake-Cook Road and St. Mary's Parkway in Buffalo Grove will be closed beginning Monday as part of a replacement project expected to last several months.

The project, funded through the federal Highway Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Program, includes demolition of the existing bridge and replacement with a two-span reinforced concrete slab structure on pile bent piers and abutments, according to the village.

In addition, the roadway from the Lake-Cook Road right of way to last year's work on St. Mary's Parkway will be improved and the stream banks surrounding the bridge will be reinforced.

A detour will be in place for those not familiar with the area, but residents of the surrounding neighborhoods are still able to use any of 10 other access points.

Buffalo Grove officials estimate the closure will be in effect until August.
