Eagle Scout project benefits Love INC

Jake Micksch, son of Beth and Steve Micksch of Grayslake, has achieved the Eagle Scout rank, Boy Scouting's highest honor. His accomplishment will be celebrated on April 26 at Wildwood Presbyterian Church in Wildwood.

Micksch is a member of Boy Scout Troop 672, which is chartered by the Wildwood Presbyterian Church.

Jake is an active Scout in Troop 672. He serves as the Senior Patrol Leader and works closely with his Scoutmaster Mark Harold, leading the troop in their many activities. He participated in the National Jamboree 2013, went on a Philmont trek in 2014 and is heading this summer to Northern Tier in Ely, Minnesota, for a canoeing adventure, in addition to spending the summer on staff at Makajawan Scout Reservation.

The requirements for Eagle Scout are challenging and include earning at least 21 merit badges, 13 of which are Eagle-specific, demonstrating leadership within the troop, and living by the principles of the Scout Oath and Scout Law daily.

Jake has already earned 45 merit badges and has more in his plans. One of the requirements for an Eagle candidate is to plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to any religious institution, school or community.

Jake's project was to design and build bunk beds to support Love INC (Love In the Name of Christ) of Lake County. Love INC helps disadvantaged individuals to rebuild their lives, in part by providing them with furniture and supplies when they are in need of assistance.

After another Scout in the troop brought it to Jake's attention that there were kids in Lake County without a bed to sleep in, he wanted to help them out. With the support of his Scouting family and friends, he raised the funds needed to purchase the supplies needed and, with many willing and supportive hands, spent a weekend leading his project in the building and staining of his sets of bunk beds.

His project coach, Chris Becker, helped him determine the design and supplies needed. With the help of Dave Enquist, president of Love INC, he was included in the delivery of one of the bunk beds he built to a family in Lake County.
