No charges expected in fatal accident in Des Plaines
Police are calling a 68-year-old Chicago woman's death a “tragic accident” after she was hit by a vehicle Thursday night in Des Plaines.
Dolores O. Williams of the 1200 block of South Prairie in Chicago was pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge at 10:29 p.m., Des Plaines police said Friday.
Witnesses told police they saw Williams run across Touhy Avenue near Wolf Road at 9:59 p.m. She was hit by a vehicle traveling east, authorities said.
The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and spoke with police.
“At this stage of the investigation, charges are not expected,” Des Plaines Deputy Police Chief Nick Treantafeles said.
The site of the accident was in a darkened area, he added.
Though there are no early indications that the driver was at fault, the investigation of the accident is continuing, Treantafeles said.
