Hampshire Elementary hires new principal

Hampshire Elementary School will have a new principal when school starts in the fall.

Cameron Shapiro, who is principal of Seth Paine Elementary School in Lake Zurich, will succeed David Scarpino, who is retiring in June, and who has served as principal since 2010. Shapiro's start date is still being determined, according to a District 300 spokesman.

Shapiro "achieved success as an instructional leader" and "demonstrated a commitment to communicate the fundamental role that social and emotional well-being plays in positive academic outcomes," Anthony McGinn, District 300's director of public relations, said in a news release. Shapiro was previously assistant principal of Friendship Junior High School in Des Plaines.

"I am excited about the opportunity to continue the great success the staff and community have created for the students," Shapiro said. "I look forward to integrating the skills and talents of the building staff with my own to create a continuously improving learning environment for all our students."

Shapiro's undergraduate work was completed at Eastern Illinois University, and he holds a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of St. Francis in Joliet.
