Vernon Hills home left uninhabitable by fire

A Vernon Hills home was left uninhabitable after a fire Friday evening, officials said.

Crews were called to a house on the 1100 block of Wadsworth Place just before 6 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the garage and front door, according to a news release from the Countryside Fire Protection District.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, which started in the utility area of the basement and spread above to the kitche, the release said. All residents were able to evacuate the home safely.

Countryside was assisted by multiple agencies, including the Libertyville, Mundelein and Lincolnshire fire departments and the Vernon Hills police department.
