Schaumburg man charged with fifth DUI

A 29-year-old Schaumburg man was arrested early Friday and charged with his fifth DUI, two days after he appeared in a Skokie courtroom on other drunken driving charges.

Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo ordered Donald Vucic held without bond for violating his bail bond in the previous case, prosecutors said.

Vucic, of the 400 block of Spruce Drive, was arrested Wednesday on charges of aggravated DUI, a class 2 felony punishable by up to seven years in prison. A Skokie judge set bond on that case at $25,000, imposed an 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew and ordered Vucic submit to electronic monitoring, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Shin.

About 12:49 a.m. Friday, Schaumburg police observed Vucic cross the centerline and cut off another driver while driving north on Roselle Road, Shin said.

Vucic had slurred speech that the officer described as "mumbled and confused," bloodshot eyes and an odor of an alcoholic beverage, Shin said.

Vucic failed field sobriety tests and had a .16 blood alcohol content, Shin said. The legal threshold in Illinois is .08. Additionally, he told the officer that he had been ordered to install an ignition lock on his car, but it was not installed, Shin said.

Vucic received two years probation for a 2011 aggravated DUI and supervision for a 2005 misdemeanor DUI. He also received supervision for a 2003 DUI.

Vucic appears in a Skokie court on March 18. He next appears in Rolling Meadows on April 16.
