Western Kentucky ferry closing due to high water
MARION, Ky. (AP) - The Cave-In-Rock Ferry that connects western Kentucky and southern Illinois is expected to be shut down for about a week or more due to the rising Ohio River.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the ferry was shutting down Thursday evening, with water over the approach to the Kentucky Landing at several locations.
An independent contractor operates the ferry between Crittenden County, Kentucky, and Hardin County, Illinois, with funding from both states through a ferry authority. The ferry carries about 500 vehicles across the Ohio River in an average day.
