Barrington dance ensemble performs March 14

Barrington's Midwest Dance Collective, under the direction of Barrington resident and Barrington High School alumni Ellen Werksman, presents its 17th annual concert, "Between These Lines"; a literary exploration of movement, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday March 14, at the Richard C. Johnson Auditorium at Barrington High School, 616 W. Main St.

Midwest Dance Collective is comprised of dancers ages 11-27 from Barrington and nearby communities including Lake Zurich, Rockford, Chicago, Antioch, Hoffman Estates, Deer Park, Palatine, Richmond and Elgin.

"Between These Lines" is a concept themed dance concert, using literature as inspiration for the many selections of choreography which include notable authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Shel Silverstein, Dr. Seuss, Lewis Carroll and William Shakespeare, to name a few.

"This performance is colorful, creative and filled with entertaining as well as thought-provoking choreography" says director Ellen Werksman.

This performance features choreography by Chicago choreographers Zach Heller and Joshua Blake-Carter from Giordano Dance Chicago; Lyndsey Hough and Sarah Ford from Inaside Chicago Dance; as well as a guest appearance by Sarah Dobson from Michigan's professional ensemble, Happendance.

Midwest Dance Collective is known not only for their artistic integrity but for their collaborations with the dance community as far reaching as Mexico and Canada. Werksman notes "Midwest Dance Collective is proud to collaborate with fellow artists within our own community while outreaching to others who can share in our experience and bring their own insight to our projects."

"It is going to be so much fun for the audience to see dancers on stage bringing to life these memorable stories. Each dance is so unique. Audience members will see Ballet, Jazz, Modern, and Contemporary styles of movement, there will be something for everyone", said Aly Heintz, the co-director of the company.

Tickets for "Between These Lines" are $12 general admission and $10 for students and seniors. For tickets, call (847) 382-1699. Tickets will be available at the door as well.
