Body found in Crystal Lake identified as missing teen

The 18-year-old man found dead Monday in a Crystal Lake park died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the McHenry County coroner said Wednesday.

Adrian F. Salazar, of Crystal Lake, who was reported missing March 1, was found about 4:15 p.m. in Canterbury Park in Crystal Lake, authorities said.

McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski said Wednesday the cause of death was a single gunshot wound to the head.

"(The) manner of death determination is ongoing but at this time appears consistent with a self-inflicted injury," she said.

Officers responded to the park near Canterbury Elementary School at about 4:15 p.m. Monday and found Salazar on the ground with a gun nearby.

No one else at the park or nearby school were injured.

Salazar was previously described by police as "despondent" and possibly in possession of a firearm when he was reported missing almost two weeks ago.
