Wheeling man pleads guilty to supplying alcohol, abusing teen

A 25-year-old Wheeling man pleaded guilty to purchasing alcohol for a teenage girl and then sexually abusing her after she became intoxicated.

In exchange for pleading guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Virgilio Carvajal-Mendoza, of the 2800 block of Hintz Road, was sentenced to 180 days in Cook County jail and 30 months probation, according to court records. He received credit for 162 days in custody.

Carvajal-Mendoza must also pay $1,194 in fines, according to court records. Additionally, prosecutors say he must also register as a sex offender.

Police say Carvajal-Mendoza purchased alcohol for a 16-year-old girl in November 2013. After the victim became intoxicated, he sexually assaulted her, police said. The victim reported the assault in August 2014 and police arrested Carvajal-Mendoza the following month.
