NNHS Fine Arts Students Sweep IMEA Top Honors

TEN NAPERVILLE NORTH HIGH SCHOOL FINE ART STUDENTS RECEIVE ILLINOIS MUSIC EDUCATORS CONFERENCE TOP HONORS

Naperville, IL, January 2015 - Naperville North High School is proud to announce ten students have been awarded All-State Honors at the annual competition of the 2015 Illinois Music Educators Conference sponsored by the Illinois Music Educators Association. (IMEA).

Thousands of students take part in the Illinois Music Educators Conference (IMEC) held in Peoria every year. The competition sequence begins in October when music students from every Illinois high school audition for their local district festival. Qualifying students move on to the district festival held in November. Those students considered to be the most highly skilled in their district go on to state level auditions in January. State level auditions determine whether they are in the All-State group or, the top group in the state, the Honors All-State ensemble. This process provides powerful educational experiences for all music students across the state.

Dana Green, NNHS Orchestra Director, is proud that faculty in all three disciplines, Band, Chorus, and Orchestra, at Naperville North work hard to elevate the level of performance of each individual musician. "The skills instructors work on in our ensembles give our students the leg up they often need when competing with the state's best musicians. Ultimately, it is because we have some of the hardest working students in Illinois at Naperville North High School that we are able to be as successful as we have been on the IMEC stage. It's astounding to have Naperville North students sitting principal in three sections of the top state orchestra. That two North students auditioned successfully into the All-State Honors Combo is just as incredible. And that all three musical disciplines are representing our program at this prestigious conference is fantastic!"

Instructional Coordinator of Fine Arts and Music Director, Nicholas Janssen, said, " This is exciting as not only were these students among the top scores in the state to even be selected for the conference, but Taylor, Alec, Tolya, and Max had the single highest score on their instrument. This is a great day for NNHS Fine Arts!" Kevin Pobst, NNHS Principal, congratulated the students and commended them on their high level of skill.

Congratulations to the following NNHS students for winning top honors in the Illinois Music Educators Conference in Peoria, Illinois:
