4 years in prison for Fox Lake woman who broke 'last chance' probation

A former Elgin woman who once was arrested on drug charges less than 24 hours after bonding out of jail on similar charges has been resentenced to four years in prison for violating her probation by being arrested on summer 2014 on drug and burglary charges.

Colleen Bagley, 39, of the 7400 block of Donwood Court, Fox Lake, faced up to 16 years in prison on the Kane County charges after she was issued five years of probation in April 2014.

At the time, Kane County Judge James Hallock said, "Either you'll be dead or in prison or you'll die of old age. This is your last chance."

Bagley can have her prison term cut in half for good behavior.

The prison sentence was imposed late last week by Judge Marmarie Kostelny, according to Kane County court records.

Bagley had been arrested numerous times on felony drug charges, including in November 2013 when she posted bond on drug charges in the morning and was arrested again that evening, records show.

Most of the cases against Bagley were for possessing prescription drugs illegally or forging prescription forms in an attempt to obtain them, records show.

A message left with her defense attorney, James McLane, on Monday was not immediately returned.

Bagley was arrested in summer 2014 on charges in Kane County that she tried to defraud a drug screening test, which prosecutors argued was a violation of her probation.

She also was arrested in July 2014 in Lake County on felony drug and burglary charges.

A tentative trial date on the Lake County charges, which carry a top penalty of up to 15 years in prison, is March 16, records show.
