Wheeling man pleads guilty to gun possession

A 20-year-old Wheeling man who was in possession of a gun on school grounds last fall pleaded guilty to that charge and to the aggravated unlawful use of a weapon Monday.

In exchange for his guilty pleas, Horacio Reynoso Jr., of the 200 block of Highland Ave., was sentenced to two years in prison and ordered to pay $794 in fines, court records show.

Police say Reynoso attempted to take his 5-year-old child out of the Walt Whitman Elementary School against the wishes of the child's mother on Oct. 1. School employees contacted police because they smelled alcohol on Reynoso. Police discovered an unloaded shotgun in Reynoso's car, which was parked on school grounds.

Reynoso received credit for 159 days in custody. He must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
