Hampshire teams dominate 20th Dundee Lions Girls Basketball Tournament

Hampshire seventh- and eighth-grade middle school teams dominated the 20th annual Dundee Lions Girls Basketball Tournament but not without a struggle. The finals were Thursday, March 5, at Carpentersville Middle School.

The seventh-grade championship game resulted in Hampshire Middle School defeating the St. Catherine of Siena School team in a thrilling double-overtime win. The score was 48 to 44.

Although the eighth-grade game was not quite as close it was a struggle for the Hampshire team to prevail in a 26-to-13 victory over Immanuel Lutheran.

Lion Eugene Tester, event chairman, presented the trophies to each of the winners and second-place teams.

Lion Tester noted the Lions take great pride in supporting the athletic programs in the community. He offered a special thanks to all parents, players and coaches who help the Lions make this tournament a success.

Profits from the event go back to the schools as well as to the Lions to support local charities. Tester also said the Lions do many fundraising activities for the community and interested people should consider joining the Lions. The Lions meet at the Village Squire in West Dundee on the first and third Thursdays for dinner at 6:30 p.m. Call Jim McClung, president, at (847) 567-7127 to make reservations and receive further information about the Lions.
