Alcohol suspected in Aurora crash that kills 21-year-old, injures 4 others

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in an early morning car crash in Aurora that killed the 21-year-old driver and left her four passengers seriously injured, police say.

They identified the woman as Porce T. Robinson of the 1600 block of East 47th Place in Chicago.

The preliminary investigation indicates Robinson was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu south on Farnsworth Avenue at about 2:20 a.m. when she apparently lost control and went off the road just south of Front Street and hit a power pole at Grove Street, according to a statement released by police.

The force of the crash threw two of passengers from the car. Witnesses told police Robinson was driving very fast.

Police said they found open alcohol inside the vehicle.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passengers included three Aurora women, ages 23, 30 and 34; along with a 24-year-old Montgomery woman.

Three of the women were taken to Aurora hospitals while a fourth was airlifted to a suburban Chicago hospital.

The 30-year-old is being treated in an intensive care unit, police said, although they did not describe her condition.

The Montgomery woman has been treated and released.

Farnsworth Avenue will be closed in both directions for several today between Front and Grove Streets while ComEd makes repairs.
