Mundelein man, 22, killed in Libertyville crash

A 22-year-old man was killed in an early Saturday morning crash involving a semi truck and a Volkswagen Beetle in Libertyville, police said.

Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd identified the man as Steven Daskauskas, who lived in Mundelein. He was a passenger in the Volkswagen Beetle when the collision occurred at 2:43 a.m. at Peterson and Harris roads, Libertyville police said in a news release.

Police did not say what caused the crash.

Daskauskas was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be done Monday, Rudd said.

The Volkswagen Beetle's driver, a 22-year-old woman, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville for treatment of minor injuries.

The semi's driver, a 41-year-old woman, suffered no injuries.

No charges have been filed, police said, and toxicology reports are pending. Libertyville police, the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and the Lake County Coroner's Office are investigating.
