Man convicted of sexually assaulting 8-year-old twins in DuPage
A 42-year-old Decatur man, Donald Nuckles, was convicted Friday of sexually assaulting twin 8-year-old girls while visiting them in their DuPage County home, authorities said.
DuPage Judge George Bakalis found Nuckles guilty of one count of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and two counts of criminal sexual abuse. Nuckles faces a possible prison sentence of up to 44 years.
DuPage State's Attorney Robert Berlin said the conviction stems from allegations that Nuckles sexually assaulted his two relatives on multiple occasions during the summer of 2011.
Authorities became aware of the situation in March 2013 when the twins told their mother that Nuckles had touched them inappropriately on several occasions, Berlin said in a news release.
Nuckles was charged after an investigation by the DuPage County Children's Center and has been held on a $250,000 bond in DuPage County jail since October 2013.
Nuckles sexually assaulted and abused the two girls “in an attempt to satisfy his own nauseating sexual desires,” Berlin said. The girls “knew him as a trusted family member and he betrayed that trust in the worst imaginable way.”
