Party politics don't belong in local elections

In the past, both Republican and Democratic committeemen of Schaumburg Township have agreed not to use their political parties to raise campaign funds for any of the non-partisan non-political municipal and school board positions. Unfortunately, this agreement has been broken by the Schaumburg Republican committeeman.

A number of individuals involved in the Schaumburg Republican party were asked to run as trustees for the Schaumburg Township Library District, for School District 54 and School District 211. They were promised a coffee sponsored by the Schaumburg Republican Party and the American Heritage Foundation, a libertarian super PAC, in order to (as stated in their own press release) support them as "candidates who have been identified as the best fiscal conservatives that are worthy of our support in this year's municipal elections."

The funds raised by this coffee will used to print support literature and a sample ballot mailing to all Republican voters identifying their endorsed candidates.

I have proudly served as a trustee of the Schaumburg Township District Library for 38 years. My fellow trustees and I have kept politics out of the library. Our only goal has been to give our patrons the best possible library services at the least possible cost. The result is that your library has no long-term debt, no pension obligations, has not raised taxes in four years, and has been accorded the highest rating for any public library in Illinois.

If you want to continue this level of excellence, I would urge you to vote for the two trustee incumbents, Nicholas Scipione, our current treasurer and Julie Wroblewski-Bosshart, our current vice-president, and for Lisa Trusdale who is endorsed by every current trustee.

I would also encourage you to vote for all the current trustees of School District 54. I have worked closely with most of the current 54 trustees and know their dedication to offering the best education possible.

Keep party politics out of our library and schools.
