Kirk Players to hold treasure hunt fundraiser April 18

Mundelein's resident performing arts group, Kirk Players, recently announced its first fundraiser in nearly 50 years.

The Golden Quest - A Kirk Player Treasure Hunt, scheduled for Saturday, April 18, is a mobile treasure hunt through Lake County with physical and mental challenges and live theatrical clues along the way.

"We are getting inquiries every day and we're encouraged with our Early Bird registration. Even if folks are unable to participate, we welcome sponsorships. We have high hopes and expect to field 50 cars for the event," said Gretchen Grassl, the group's fundraising chairwoman.

"We're fortunate to have the support and talent of three pretty special women," Grassl said. "Laura Mellon, Mary Wadsworth and Barbara Peterson are knowledgeable and experienced treasure hunt developers, and their passion for Kirk Players is truly heartwarming."

The women, all Mundelein residents with various backgrounds in road rallies and hunts, have been planning and developing the Kirk Players event with Grassl for several months.

Mellon is an active advocate for young adults with disabilities and offers her time to the Mundelein Park District as a party coordinator. She presently serves on the board of Mundelein High School.

Wadsworth, Laura's mother, has been active in treasure hunts since the early 1970s. She's developed several hunts for groups throughout the Chicago area. In 2007, she and her husband moved to Mundelein to be near her grandchildren.

Peterson has also developed road rallies and treasure hunts, her most notable with the Jaycees of Park Ridge. Barbara became aware of the Kirk Players event through her friendship with Mary.
