Antioch's Keefe connecting at Rock Valley

Coming off a National Junior College Athletic Association All-American campaign as a freshman, Antioch graduate Kaytee Keefe is off to a terrific start for the Rock Valley College softball team in Rockford.

Keefe finished a six-game conference tournament last weekend with a .632 batting average, 11 RBI, 7 runs, 2 doubles, 2 triples and a home run. The Golden Eagles outscored their conference opponents 58-2.

Last year, coach Darin Monroe's Rock Valley College squad won the NJCAA III nationals, setting a single-season program record with 42 wins.

Keefe started at first base and racked up several accolades, including All-Region (1st Team), NJCAA All-Tournament Team, NJCAA All-American (2nd Team) and NFCA NJCAA III All-American. She ended the season with a .462 batting average and 48 RBI.

Keefe was a three-time all-North Suburban Conference selection for Antioch.

Football

Warren senior offensive lineman Jason Redford has committed to continue playing football at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Boys hockey

The Libertyville-Vernon Hills IceCats finished the regular season as the first place team in the Sterling Division of the Illinois High School Hockey League (North Central). They ran through the round robin playoff tournament with a 4-0 record.

This IceCats fielded five league all-stars: Jack Murphy, Bryan Constable, Ben Furie, Alex Zwiener and Charlie Newberg, who skated in the league all-Star game on Jan. 4 at West Meadow. Constable was awarded the game MVP.

In addition, Murphy and Furie were all-state honorees and played in the all-state game at the Edge Ice Arena In Bensenville on Feb. 9.
