Safety Fair coming to Glen Ellyn District 41

"Safety first" will be the message at a safety fair on Saturday at Hadley Junior High School in Glen Ellyn.

The event is organized by the district's PTA Council and will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon. It is the result of several community partnerships, and will give residents the chance to get tips on topics including Internet safety, first aid and bike safety.

At the event's vendor fair, guests can ask questions and gather information from several safety-related representatives, including fire department officials, a district school nurse and the Hadley student anti-bullying and diversity club.

Also, the Glen Ellyn Public Library will be offering Internet safety advice and a local martial arts group will be conducting demonstrations and providing self-defense tips.

There will also be interactive activities, including bike and helmet safety tips from Element Glen Ellyn, a safety village from the Glen Ellyn Park District, first aid and home safety tips from local Cub Scouts and a food safety presentation from Whole Foods.

During a coffee and conversation, parents can ask questions of local law enforcement and the district's director of buildings and grounds.

The fair will also include two breakout sessions where parents can learn about back and head injuries and how to help their kids survive their adolescent years.
