Lake Zurich Purple Plunge to aid American Cancer Society

The Purple Plunge, a volunteer-driven event dedicated to raising money for American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Lake Zurich Area/Wauconda/Island Lake, will host its second Purple Plunge at Breezewald Beach and Park on Saturday, March 7, where more than 100 people will jump in Lake Zurich.

The Purple Plunge is a community fundraising event where participants "put cancer on ice" by collecting donations and creating teams to brave the icy cold water of Lake Zurich. The brief shock and pain felt by Purple Plungers pales in comparison to the physical and emotional suffering the cancer patients endure every day. All funds raised at the Purple Plunge will be donated to American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Lake Zurich Area/Wauconda/Island Lake

Purple represents every type of cancer. The Plunge isn't just fighting one type of cancer, but fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. Each person who shares the Purple Plunge experience can take pride in knowing that they are working to create a world where this disease will no longer threaten their loved ones or rob anyone of another birthday.

Plungers are encouraged to dress in their craziest costumes and create teams. There will be prizes for best costumes and top fundraiser. Mayor Tom Poynton of the village of Lake Zurich, will be taking the plunge for the second year.

Event day registrations will be at Scoreboard Bar & Grill and begin at 9 a.m. First Plunge will be 11 a.m. at Breezewald Beach and Park. Following the Plunge, Scoreboard Bar & Grill will be hosting a Post Plunge Party which will include a raffle, music, and recognition ceremony.

Last year, the inaugural Purple Plunge had over 50 Plungers and raised more than $11,000.
