Groce expecting new baby as team fights to reach NCAAs
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - Illinois basketball coach John Groce (GROHS) has his hands full trying to coax his team into the NCAA Tournament over the next couple of weeks. But his priorities could change in the next few days.
Groce's wife, Allison, is expecting the couple's third child any day now. They have two young sons.
Groce said Tuesday that his wife could deliver "any time now." The Illini (18-8, 8-8 Big Ten) are preparing to play Nebraska on Wednesday, and Groce says he hopes to coach that game.
Groce told reporters during a news conference that an assistant was trailing him with a cell phone in case his wife calls.
If it rings, Groce said, "I like you guys, but I'm out of here."
Allison Groce is expecting a daughter.
