Children celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday at Vernon Area Public Library

Children at the Vernon Area Public Library celebrated author Dr. Seuss' birthday Tuesday in Lincolnshire.

Kindergartners through second-graders listened as children's librarian Emily MacNiff read aloud from some of the books written by Dr. Seuss, also known as Theodor Seuss Geisel, who died in 1991.

The kids then split into groups and made Dr. Seuss-related crafts, enjoyed a snack and watched the movie "The Sneeches."

"I think even at 111 years old, he's (Seuss) still relevant to children's literature," MacNiff said. "Kids are still drawn to him whether it's a picture book or early reader that's helping them learn to read."

The event was free and open to all who registered.
