Lincoln library event to celebrate women in Illinois history

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Women's contributions to Illinois history will be featured at a free event at the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield.

The "Stories from the Stacks" presentation is scheduled for March 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room of the presidential library.

The program will feature groups like the League of Women Voters and the Women's Auxiliary of the Progressive Mine Workers of America. Labor activist Mother Jones and sculptor Vinnie Ream will get time in the spotlight.

Women's home life and manners will be featured, with catalogs published just before the Great Depression, greeting cards, books on manners and household remedies, and Springfield's own Herndon's Illustrated Journal of Fashion from 1873.

Reservations are required and can be made online at the library and museum's website.
