Indianapolis airport seeks bidders for 600 acres of land

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis International Airport is seeking a real estate broker to sell more than 600 acres of airport land.

The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/1GGCnRb ) reports requests for qualifications were sent out Friday and need to be returned by mid-April. The airport plans to send out a separate request for bids to developers this month.

The formerly tax-exempt land is part of 3,200 acres the airport wants to sell. Airport officials say the land is worth $83 million.

The executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority says the development won't be aviation-related. He says the airport is talking to Hendricks County and Plainfield officials about potential uses for about 2,000 acres of protected habitat that must be used for nonprofit or educational purposes.
