Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?My entire life has been about volunteering and helping others. I have served on the Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council Board; Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago Board of Advisors; acted as Media Manager for the World Games for Special Olympics; worked with Habitat; did broadcast reading for the blind, and other endeavors. The Palatine Public Library District Board Trustee position will allow my efforts to extend into the civic arena of giving back.If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are a non-incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.Having served on many boards, I am experienced in policy making; program development; fiscal responsibility; meeting the needs of patrons; complying with government regulations, and the other aspects of the position. I am a strong fundraiser and hope to catapult those efforts to the highest level of support to take the Palatine Public Library District to the next level.Do you have a library card? How long have you had it? How often do you use it?I do have a library card. I often take advantage of the many programs the Palatine Library offers including informative, educational, and general well-being programs.Space is an issue at many libraries. If that's the case at your library, would your solution be to expand the physical plant or make room by doing away with parts of the collection that technology has made less critical? Explain. The Palatine Public Library has done a cohesive job of addressing space issues. Certainly, technology has played a role in those efforts. What impact have economic and technological changes had on libraries? How does a library remain relevant? How should its role in the community change?Digitization has caused a transformation from book-based knowledge to electronic media. The purpose of the library has expanded its classical roots to become a hub for personal learning growth and entertainment. As the saying goes, todayâ#128;™s library is not your fatherâ#128;™s library! Its role in the community has morphed from borrowing books, and/or research capsule, to a comfortable place you can go to see a magic or puppet show; do crafts; learn how to start a consulting business or get advice on job resumes/interviews. The Palatine Public Library even garnishes your body with exercise and your spirit with meditation. As the community changes, so must the library- it has and will continue to do so.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?I would like to see the Palatine Public Library continue to become a nucleus for the communityâ#128;#148;all the community, including the underserved populations. Perhaps this can be addressed by hosting food, clothing, and other drives. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Candidate did not respond. What's the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?Candidate did not respond. If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Candidate did not respond. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Candidate did not respond. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Candidate did not respond.
