What changes, if any, do you think need to be made?My two oldest children graduated from District 211 schools and were able to handle a college level education without too much difficulty. My youngest son is doing well as a junior in high school. The only changes I would make would be to continue expanding our curriculum and activities to give our students different options and explore different opportunities so that they can make the proper life and career decisions for their future. Is the current collective bargaining agreement with teachers a good deal for the district? If yes, explain, where you see the district benefitting. If no, be specific about what you don't like and how it should be renegotiated the next time. The collective bargaining agreement with the teachers was good for the district. It provided the district and the teachers an open forum that allowed both sides to express their thoughts, ideas and opinions on how to improve the educational process for all the students of the district. Both sides were reasonable and open to discussion. Improvements were discussed to benefit the educational process for all the students of the district. Compromises were made and any threat of labor disputes were dismissed. As a result this agreement allows the district to know what the teacher salaries are and allows the district to plan the financial budget each year. What budgetary issues will your district have to confront during the next four years and what measures do you support to address them? If you believe cuts are necessary, be specific about programs and expenses that should be considered for reduction or elimination. On the income side, do you support any tax increases for local schools? Again, be specific.Budgetary issues are always a concern to everyone. I feel the district needs to look at every option that can reduce cost and utilize the savings for other needs. Energy savings is probably one of the big line items and with the new technology the district could reduce cost and usage yet maintain efficiency. LED lights and light fixtures is one direction I feel the District needs to look at. LED lights have a longer life expectancy than normal florescent fixtures and utilizes less energy. This alone could be a huge cost savings over time. I don't feel that the District needs to cut or reduce programs. The District would would do a disservice to the children by eliminating opportunities. I do not support any tax increase at this time. I feel with a conscience effort, the District could save money through exploring cost effective means. Efforts to look for special funding and grants could also add in supplementing the District financial needs. Are all the high schools in District 211 treated equally, in your opinion? The District tries to maintain a balance in all the activities, however each school can seek out seek different activities and events that would be unique to that school or a particular club. Are you currently employed by or retired from a school district, if so, which one?
