16-year-old boy charged with murder in Aurora shooting death
AURORA, Ill. (AP) - A 16-year-old boy from Aurora has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting.
The (Aurora) Beacon-News reports (http://trib.in/1LZqPJH ) that authorities say the Friday shooting was gang-related. It left 17-year-old Gianni Aguirre dead. Police say the suspect and another teen approached Aguirre, exchanged words and then the suspect fired several shots with a handgun. Aguirre was struck once in the chest.
Aguirre was pronounced dead at an Aurora hospital. An autopsy is pending.
The Kane County state's attorney filed the murder charges Saturday. The boy is in custody at the Kane County Youth Home. The 16-year-old is charged as an adult. Police didn't identify him pending a court hearing.
The shooting death is the first homicide of 2015 in Aurora.
