February 2015 set to tie for coldest on record

Saturday morning's below zero temperatures means February 2015 will likely end up tied with 1875 as the coldest February on record with an average temperature of 14.6.

Official numbers won't be released until Sunday, but the National Weather Service says when they are, 2015 will go down as one of the coldest months in Chicago history.

O'Hare International Airport recorded a temperature of 10 degrees below zero on Saturday monring, according to the National Weather Service.

It's also the third snowiest February on record.

But neither statistic means warmer weather is going to be delayed. One month's climate data has no impact on the next, said Amy Seeley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

That's especially true in March, she said.

"March is such a transition month," Seeley said.

Official February statistics will be available from the National Weather Service next week.

Here's a look at the meteorological highs and lows of February weather, by the numbers.
