Nimoy in 1982 to Dann Gire about Spock dying, and those eyebrows
Daily Herald film critic Dann Gire interviewed Leonard Nimoy twice - once in L.A. in 1982 on "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" and then again by phone two years later when Nimoy directed "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock." Here are some excerpts:
On Spock's death: "I didn't want to film that scene and last night (at a screening) I didn't want to see it," Nimoy said, adding he got misty-eyed at his own screen death.
On creating Spock's look: "The makeup is a tough problem for me. It always has been. It's tedious, confining and uncomfortable. The entire makeup takes two hours and the ears a half-hour to 45 minutes. The eyebrows can take longer than the ears. Few people realize they must be laid on hair by hair and cut fresh every morning."
On Spock himself: "He's a character who always says the right thing, does the right thing. He's in control of himself in all situations, he's got charming wit, and there's nothing better than to put down Dr. McCoy."
