'42nd Street' opens this weekend at Conant High School

The musical "42nd Street" opens this weekend at James B. Conant High School, an ambitious production about an ambitious hoofer on Broadway in 1933.

The big, bold musical - "Lullaby of Broadway," "Shuffle Off To Buffalo," "We're in the Money" and more - is the story of a sweet small town girl who hops a train to New York, in hopes of becoming a star. Along the way, she sings, dances, battles the leading lady, meets a boy and falls in love.

Director Tim Koll and more than 100 students and faculty have collaborated over four months on the show, which opens at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27 at Conant High School's Plate Auditorium, 700 E. Cougar Trail.

Other performances are at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28; Friday-Saturday, March 6-7; and a 3 p.m. matinee on March 7. Run time is about 2 hours, 30 minutes.

Tickets are $8, plus a service charge. Advance ticket sales are available at www.ShowTix4U.com, (Visa, MasterCard, Discover accepted) or order by phone at (866) 967-8167. Tickets will also be sold one hour prior to the curtain at the Box Office, located at West Entrance #5.
