Aurora man charged with sharing child porn

An Aurora man was arrested this week after police said he downloaded and distributed hundreds of child pornography pictures.

Niraj V. Patel, of the 3600 block of Gabrielle Lane in Aurora, was arrested Tuesday after a seven-month investigation, according to a Thursday news release. Naperville and Aurora police worked together on the investigation, which found that Patel, 37, was "responsible for downloading and distributing hundreds of images and videos of children engaged in sexual conduct," according to the release.

Patel has been charged with three counts of dissemination of child pornography, one count of possession of child pornography and one count of possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owners Identification card.

Patel was formerly a Naperville resident but moved to Aurora during the investigation, police said.

He is being held on $500,000 bail, according to the release.
