School bus rolls over in Lindenhurst; no injuries reported

A Lake Villa District 41 school bus rolled over Wednesday afternoon in Lindenhurst, but none of its four occupants were injured, police say.

The crash happened just after 3:30 p.m. on Grand Avenue just west of Munn Road near the Lindenhurst and Lake Villa border, Lindenhurst Cmdr. Tony Fikejs said.

The school bus, carrying the driver and her own three children ages 3 to 6 years old, was heading west when police say a mechanical issue may have caused it to jump the curb on the north side of the road and then tip over. "Based on the driver's statement and witness statements, it may have been a mechanical malfunction," Fikejs said.

Nobody was injured. The bus sustained damage to its undercarriage and moderate damage on its side from rolling over, Fikejs said. Grand Avenue was closed for 50 minutes while emergency responders worked.
