Why keep renewing Breuder contract?

I read Erin Birt's opinion that the COD board of trustees issuing the buyout for Dr. Breuder was their best option. That may be so, but what none of the trustees seem to be addressing is how they got themselves into this situation.

Dr. Breuder has had many issues over the years, including the vote of no confidence from the faculty, the fights with the city of Glen Ellyn, the misuse at Waterleaf, and the questionable email about a $20 million state grant. Yet with all these issues, the board of trustees continued to extend his contract. Maybe if they had been doing their job the past six years, they wouldn't have kept extending his contract and the taxpayers wouldn't be paying for his golden buyout today.

They cannot account for their mismanagement as trustees but we are supposed to accept their buyout vote, and in some cases, elect them for another term?

Let's hope that on Election Day, the voters of DuPage County do a better job than the COD trustees.
