Fingerstyle guitar wizard returns to ECC Arts Center March 7

Martin Guitar artist Shaun Hopper will mesmerize guests with his extraordinary percussive, fingerstyle acoustic guitar technique on Saturday, March 7, at the Building H Elgin Community College Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The performance will begin at 7 p.m. Hopper previously thrilled ECC Arts Center audience in February 2014.

Hopper's fingerstyle acoustic guitar style merges complex melodic, harmony and bass lines with a one-of-a-kind percussive technique. His approach is inspired by guitar legends like Tommy Emmanuel, George Benson, Martin Taylor, Leo Kottke and Chet Atkins. The final result is an exhilarating signature style that encompasses the full range of musical genres, including alternative, folk, classical, Celtic, rock, pop, jazz and blues.

Years of honing his craft led Hopper to win Best Instrumental Song at the Winfield National Fingerpicking Championship in 2007. Later that same year, he won second place in the singer-songwriter competition at Atlanta's famed Eddie's Attic Shootout Competition without singing a single note, being the first and only instrumentalist ever to achieve such recognition.

According to Creative Loafing Magazine, "The kids got fingers of doom, no two ways about it. A true world class talent on fingerstyle flat-top acoustic guitar. Hopper effortlessly channels Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel, and Andre Segovia, blowing minds and dropping jaws everywhere."

Tickets are $25. A three-course, preshow dinner prepared by ECC's award-winning Culinary Arts and Hospitality program is available for an additional $29. Dinners must be ordered on or before Monday, March 2.
