Dundee Lions to host girls basketball tournament

The Dundee Township Lions Club's annual Girls Middle School Basketball Tournament starts this Saturday, Feb. 28, at Hampshire Middle School. Four games will be played.

The first game starts at 9 a.m. with Algonquin Middle playing Westfield Community School in the eighth-grade division. The second game begins at 10:30 a.m. with Dundee Middle playing Immanuel Lutheran. In the seventh-grade division, Algonquin Middle plays Carpentersville at 9 a.m. while Dundee Middle plays St. Catherine at 10:30 a.m.

“What a bargain,” Gene Tester, chairman of the event, reports for family entertainment. Four dollars buys an adult a ticket and $2 for students. Tickets are good for the whole tournament including semifinals and finals next week. Other participating schools are Hampshire Middle School and Westfield Community School.

Hampshire Middle School teams begin Monday and Tuesday as both the seventh- and eighth-grade teams received a bye for their regular season's performance. Games will start at 4:30 and 5:45 p.m. Monday at Westfield Community School then the same times Tuesday at Dundee Middle. Thursday finals will be played at Carpentersville Middle School beginning at 4:30 and 5:45 p.m.

Refreshments for a modest charge will be provided by the Lions at all games. In addition there will be a 50/50 raffle. All proceeds will be utilized to pay for the tournament and support community charities.
