Ex-Terps defensive coordinator to coach Nebraska secondary

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Former Maryland defensive coordinator Brian Stewart has been hired to coach Nebraska's defensive backs.

Cornhuskers coach Mike Riley announced Tuesday that Stewart would come to Lincoln after three seasons with the Terrapins. Stewart has been a defensive coordinator five years at the college level and two in the NFL. He also has 15 years of experience coaching defensive backs.

The 50-year-old Stewart was defensive coordinator at the University of Houston in 2010-11 and was the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator in 2007-08. He also has been an NFL assistant with Philadelphia, San Diego and Houston.

Last season's Maryland defense ranked 95th nationally in yards allowed (436.2) and tied for 87th in points allowed (30.2). The Terps were 78th in passing yards allowed (234.3) and 40th in pass efficiency defense.
