Hanover Park teen gets 15 years for abusing infant

A Hanover Park teen was sentenced to a total of 15 years in prison Tuesday in exchange for his guilty pleas to assaulting a 13-month-old girl last September.

Cole Eben, 19, was sentenced by Cook County Judge Thomas Fecarotta to seven years for predatory criminal sexual assault and eight years for aggravated battery of a child causing permanent disability or disfigurement.

Fecarotta ordered the sentences be served consecutively.

"This is a harsh sentence, but it's warranted," Fecarotta said.

Eben, who had no prior criminal background, received credit for 154 days in custody. He must complete at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole and he must register as a sex offender upon his release.

On Sept. 23, 2014, day care employees noticed the baby had blood in her diaper and informed her mother, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Mike Gerber. The mother took her baby to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates where doctors found injuries and signs of sexual abuse.

Eben was the last person with the child, Gerber said, adding that Eben made statements to the police implicating himself.
