COD problem: Auto-extensions

Example: I found the board chairman of COD guest view particularly appalling (implying that the college president's buyout was a good deal for taxpayers). The issue at the core of the taxpayer problem is that any buyout should not have been necessary.

Any members of the board that previously allowed automatic extensions, contributing to a continuous five year contract should be voted out as soon as possible.

Good management of personnel contracts dictate that multiple year contracts should only be reviewed for appropriateness and possibly extended when there is less than one year left on the contract. At that point in time, a decision can be made by all parties to the contract on what makes sense to all going forward, negating any buyout. The COD contract was poorly written to begin with from a taxpayer's perspective, surely we can do better.
