Scott scores 17 as Indiana St. beats Southern Illinois 78-58

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - Brenton Scott scored 17 points and Justin Gant 16 as Indiana State cruised past Southern Illinois 78-58 on Saturday, handing the Salukis their fourth straight loss.

Indiana State (14-14, 10-6 Missouri Valley Conference) rebounded from an upset at Missouri State on Wednesday. Gant made his first four shots - including a dunk - in the first 2:33 as the Sycamores jumped out early.

Still, Southern Illinois (10-19, 3-13) led 10-8 after a Tyler Smithpeters 3-pointer but Tre' Bennett canned a 3 for Indiana State and Gant threw down another dunk as the Sycamores pulled away and Southern Illinois went nearly six minutes without scoring.

The Salukis, led by Anthony Beane's 22 points, shot 41 percent (20-48). Indiana State hit 26 of 53 shots for 49 percent and drained 9 of 18 3-pointers. The Sycamores outrebounded Southern Illinois 38-26 and had 18 assists, with Jake Kitchell dishing six.
