Former student suing Chicago school over stabbing

CHICAGO (AP) - A former student who was stabbed at his Chicago high school in 2012 has filed a lawsuit accusing school officials, the Chicago Board of Education and the city of failing to provide adequate security.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports (http://bit.ly/1z71Yws ) that 20-year-old Kevin Hernandez filed the negligence lawsuit Friday in Cook County Circuit Court.

Hernandez says he was in line for a security check at AMIKids Infinity Chicago when another student attacked him. A third student was killed, and the alleged assailant was arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder.

Hernandez says the school did not have enough security personnel and inadequately screened students.

Representatives for CPS and the city say they haven't yet been served with the suit and cannot comment. AMIKids did not immediately return messages seeking comment.
