Fire damages St. Charles home

No one was injured in a fire that began early Saturday in the attic of a single-family home in the 36W800 block of Middlecreek Lane in St. Charles.

One of the occupants woke up about 3:40 a.m. Saturday, smelled smoke and called 911. Firefighters from the Fox River & Countryside Fire District extinguished the fire which broke out in an attic area above a bathroom and which burned completely through several attic joists, authorities said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Authorities estimated damage totaled $20,000.

Fire departments from Pingree Grove, Elgin, South Elgin and Elburn provided assistance.
