Concord Mills in neighborhood profile

Mark Lind lived in a townhouse in the Concord Mills subdivision in Palatine, yet had his eye on a single-family home with a large lot and great yard in the same neighborhood. So when the house came up for sale, he jumped at the chance to purchase the home he admired.

Today he and his wife Brianne and their children enjoy their house and its location south of Dundee and east of Hicks roads in the center of all kinds of activity.

“Although we're close to everything, off Hicks it's still quiet and kind of secluded,” Brianne Lind said. “In the daytime, we walk everywhere. I put the kids in the stroller, and we walk to the park, Jewel, Mariano's (grocery stores). And we love it in the summertime when everyone is out talking.”

As for their house, they have enjoyed the extra space.

“We made it our own with updates in almost every room, and it really feels like home, very homey. We love it,” Lind said.

“It's a great family home with a lot of good areas where the kids can hang out and a big room for them in the basement.”

Also, the couple often entertains, and they like the open kitchen and family room where everyone gathers throughout the main level, and the kids congregate in the basement where they love the big comfy couches and like to play games.

“We love that the neighborhood is filled with kids,” Lind said. “We are great friends with everyone, and we barbecue and have impromptu get-togethers. We love it.”

Built by Concord Homes, the Concord Mills subdivision features single-family homes of 2,273 to 2,937 square feet, generally four bedrooms, 2½ to 3½ baths, two-car garage and a full or partial basement.

Townhouses offer both two-story and ranch styles with two or three bedrooms, 1½ to 2½ baths and two-car garage.

“This is a newer subdivision for Palatine, so you see vaulted and cathedral ceilings and open floor plans, spacious rooms and nice master baths,” said Carol Wilcox, real estate broker with Baird & Warner in Arlington Heights.

“The lots are a little larger than other subdivisions in the area, and there's a walking path in the subdivision that people like,” she said.

“Concord Mills is a really good family area. Sometimes people purchase a townhouse, and they like it so much, they later buy a single-family home in the same subdivision.”

The location is so convenient. It's close to everything — shopping, Route 53 and the Metra station. Revitalized downtown Palatine offers several restaurants, boutiques, hair salons, coffee shops and community events. And for a night out close to home, nearby Deer Park also offers shopping, good restaurants and a movie theater.

Palatine provides plenty of recreation with a community aquatic center, parks, lakes, golf courses, festivals and concerts. The park district offers a full slate of activities for residents of all ages. In its southeast corner, the Twin Lakes recreation area features a walking path, nine-hole golf course and driving range, paddleboats and fishing. The park also has a concession house with good food and picnic tables. Many people enjoy sitting outside looking out on the lake.
