Tennessee-Martin edges Eastern Illinois in overtime 75-73

CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) - Marshun Newell scored a career-high 24 points and Twymond Howard tipped in the winning bucket in overtime to lift Tennessee-Martin to a 75-73 win over Eastern Illinois on Thursday night.

Tied at 73 with five seconds left in overtime, Deville Smith's layup was blocked by Eastern Illinois' Chris Olivier but Howard got the offensive board and tip-in to clinch the win. Reggie Smith missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer at the other end.

Newell finished 9 of 17 from the field, including a layup with 59 seconds left in regulation to tie it at 64 and force overtime. Howard and Alex Anderson contributed 14 points apiece for the Skyhawks (17-9, 9-4 Ohio Valley Conference). Howard also hauled in 13 rebounds to get his fourth double-double of the season.

Olivier led Eastern Illinois (15-12, 8-6) with a career-high 25 points, Cornell Johnston added 15 points - all on his career-high five 3-pointers - and LeTrell Viser 11.
